The working group emerges out of the robust community created in the CCA seminar this past year and will explore the political, philosophical and historical implications of assuming an archipelagic framework: How have islands and archipelagoes produced particular poetic, aesthetic, cultural, and social formations? What does it mean if, as we focus not on continents, but on island-island and transoceanic relations? The working group will study the geographic grounding of the relational heuristic "archipelagoes" and its potential to open novel methodologies of studying the intersections of the local, the material, and the trans-regional.
