Digital Humanities and the Technologies of Memory

Digital technology increasingly mediates our encounters with the past, with profound implications for the humanities. With the general wide-scale movement from books to screens, we are beginning to see the textual record more profoundly, even as library collections are falling under threat of loss. We need to better understand the book and the computer as intersecting technologies of memory – with the library as crossroads – and work to create vital humanities research environments that draw on the strengths of both old and new media.
