Experiencing the Salon

The first meeting of the CCA sponsored working group, Experiencing the Salon will explore the salon beyond Paris. We'll base our discussion on these three articles/chapters:
 

  • Gillen D'Arcy Wood, "The Female Penseroso: Anna Seward, Sociable Poetry, and the Handelian Consensus," Modern Language Quarterly 67:4 (December 2006).
  • Wendy Wassying Roworth, "Residence of the Arts: Angelica Kauffman's Place in Rome," in Italy's Eighteenth Century, edited by Paula Findlen, et al., Stanford University Press, 2009.
  • Lianne Weissberg, "Literary Culture and Jewish Space around 1800: The Berlin Salon Revisited," in Modern Jewish Literatures : Intersections and Boundaries, edited by Sheila E. Jelen, et al., University of Pennsylvania Press, 2010.

All three articles/chapters are available under "resources" on our Sakai site.
