Overview:

This working group brings together humanities and social sciences faculty and graduate students throughout the Rutgers campuses to explore the topic of “new cosmopolitanisms.” The study group will explore such topics as: global cities, new and revised notions of community, local globalism, citizenship and migration, rethinking of East/West and North/South polarities, translation, language change in the new cosmopolis, and the cultural challenges of the “post-colonial.” The group will host Walter Mignolo ( Duke University) as part of the ongoing discussion of models of international studies. If you are interested in joining this group please contact the group’s organizers.

“New Cosmopolitanisms” is affiliated with the Global Initiative, a faculty-driven collaborative project to promote global studies, international studies, and area studies at Rutgers. For more information on this initiative, visit http://ruafrica.rutgers.edu/global_initiative
